These essays give Cinema Journal authors the opportunity to augment their essays with follow-up thoughts they've had in the lag time between submission and publication. 


While there are no new Afterthoughts for 56.3, you can still check out past contributions.
 
In Focus:

The In Focus section from each issue is available for open access on the SCMS website in PDF form. The In Focus for Issue 56.3 focuses on Asian American Film and Media and is edited by Brian Hu and Vincent N. Pham.

In Focus at In Media Res:

Each In Focus section of Cinema Journal has a companion week at Media Commons’ In Media Res, where authors can expand on their topics with multimedia extras and invite further discussion in the comments section. The In Focus on Asian American Film and Media will run at IMR the week of May 29-June 2.
 
Archival News:

Currently edited by Katherine Groo, this quarterly feature reports recent news highlights from the media archive community, including: acquisitions, preservation, institutional and organizational changes, exhibitions, awards, new DVD releases, online resources, and technology.
Professional Notes:
 
Currently edited by Christine Becker and Colleen Glenn, this quarterly feature lists recent books published in media studies, as well as articles on film and TV published in non-media journals.
 

Aca-Media is a monthly podcast that presents an academic perspective on media. Hosts Christine Becker and Michael Kackman explore current scholarship, issues in the media industries, questions in pedagogy and professional development, and events in the world of media studies. The most recent episode features media studies researchers and teachers involved in protest, organizing, and public scholarship initiatives following the presidential election of 2016. The next episode, coming soon, will feature an interview with SCMS president Steven Cohan, as well as an interview with one of the creators of Radio Garden, a website linking to 8,000 live radio stations from around the globe.
 
Cinema Journal Teaching Dossier at TeachingMedia.org:

Cinema Journal and TeachingMedia.org have partnered to develop a quarterly feature called the Cinema Journal Teaching Dossier. The goals of this partnership are to foster critical reflection on media studies teaching and pedagogy and to engender serious discussion of pedagogical issues via an active online platform. The current dossier is titled Negotiating Precarious Positions: Strategies for Working As and With Adjuncts, and Other Non-Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Cinema and Media Studies. The upcoming dossier is titled Teaching with Primary Sources: Media Studies and the Archive.
[in]Transition:

This collaboration between MediaCommons and Cinema Journal is the first peer-reviewed academic journal of videographic film and moving image studies.The most recent issue features videographic work by Catherine Grant, Chiara Grizzaffi, Christian Keathley, Jason Mittell, and Drew Morton.
