As of issue 60.1, JCMS: Journal of Cinema and Media Studies is published by Michigan Publishing in cooperation with the Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS).
To explore JCMS content, visit their new website! Below, you’ll find information about JCMS’s subscriptions and policies. For any JCMS-related inquiries, please contact the JCMS Administrative Coordinator,
Maggie Steinhauer, or use the Contact Us Form at the bottom of this page.
SCMS members receive a digital subscription to JCMS with their yearly membership, and may opt-in to receive print copies for a fee (covers postage costs only). Members can select their annual journal subscription preferences during the renewal/sign-up
process, or can email the JCMS Administrative Coordinator at any time throughout the year to receive an invoice for postage. Non-members, both individuals and institutions, are also able to purchase an annual subscription to JCMS through the Society
for Cinema and Media Studies. As of July 2022, SCMS does not offer a discount to subscription agencies. Beginning with Volume 62, SCMS will send an invoice for the remaining cost of a subscription to any agencies still applying a previous discount.
The non-member subscription rates for Volume 65 are as follows:
Institutional digital memberships are available through Project Muse.
PLEASE NOTE: Between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026, subscription orders are for Volume 65 only. We cannot offer subscription rates for previously published issues, or accept orders for future volumes at this time.
Back Issues of JCMS are available for individual purchase here. These orders are fulfilled by our warehouse, Chicago Distribution Center. Availability is subject to inventory status. If your desired issue is currently
unavailable, please contact jcms-admin@scmstudies.org to request it.
POLICIES
Subscription Term & Mailing Procedures
JCMS: Journal of Cinema and Media Studies is published on an academic-year schedule. For Volume 65, we expect issues to be published online in Fall 2025, Winter 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026, with print copies to follow later in each quarter.
JCMS also offers several open-access features, including the Fifth Issue of each volume (63.5, 64.5, etc.). The Fifth Issue’s articles
are published periodically throughout the year, and are open-access and online-only. Subscriptions are for the current volume year only, and do not renew automatically.
For Volume 65 subscriptions, we recommend placing your order by October 1, 2025 so we can make sure to include your order on the first issue’s mailing list. All subscription orders received after the first issue’s mailing list is sent to the publisher
will be categorized as Catch Up Subscribers, as in, “catching up” to the next mailing list. Catch Up Subscribers will receive all forthcoming print issues as they become available, and previously published issues will be ordered with the next available
mailing list for warehouse fulfillment. Fulfillment of previously published issues is subject to inventory status and can take 4-6 additional weeks to arrive after receipt of the newest issue. There may be further delays if additional inventory is
required.
JCMS only issues mailing lists once per quarter, for all subscribers. For Catch Up Subscribers, this means there may be lengthy delays between when your order is processed and when the next Mailing List is issued. We are not able to expedite this delay
for Catch Up Subscribers.
Payment Methods
SCMS accepts VISA, Mastercard, and Discover for online payments. ACH Transfers from subscription agencies are considered upon request to jcms-admin@scmstudies.org. Subscribers may also send payment by check to SCMS at the following address:
Society for Cinema and Media Studies
640 Parrington Oval, Old Science Hall Room 300
Norman, OK 73019
Money orders or checks must be payable to “Society for Cinema and Media Studies” in USD and funds must be drawn from a US bank.
Missing Issue Claims
We anticipate that print issues should arrive to subscribers approximately two months after the online publication of each issue. If you have not received the most recent print issue within two-three months after online publication, please file a missing
issue claim via email. To expedite the claim process, please provide us with the original purchase order/invoice and proof of payment if not shown on the invoice. If the claim documentation indicates that we have made an error during the fulfillment
of the order, we will send the necessary replacement issues to the claimant ASAP. Shipping to US/Canada takes approximately 1-2 weeks, and international shipments can take between 4-6 weeks. Resolution of all other missing issue claims is at the discretion
of the JCMS Administrative Coordinator and SCMS Office, but will typically involve delays until our next available quarterly shipment window.
Undeliverable Issues/Address Changes
If your mailing address changes, please update your profile or notify the JCMS Administrative Coordinator as soon as you can to avoid a problem with delivery. If a replacement issue(s) is required, additional fees may apply toward postage and/or product
cost when sending to a new address. If you are an SCMS member, issues will be sent to your profile’s Personal Information address and you can update that at any time in the member portal.
When issues are returned to our warehouse as “Undeliverable,” the JCMS Administrative Coordinator will contact you via email to arrange for a new shipment. Issues will not be re-sent until the subscriber responds to this message. If the cause of non-delivery
was a new/incorrect address, the subscriber will be responsible for the new shipping fees.
Refunds
Cancellation requests should be sent via email to jcms-admin@scmstudies.org. For missing issue claims, refunds may be requested and will be handled on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the JCMS Administrative Coordinator. Please review the following
for specific refund procedures based on subscription type:
Print Subscriptions: If you would like to cancel your print subscription, please do so ASAP after placing to avoid partial fulfillment. Print issues that have already been mailed are not eligible for refund. For non-member institutional subscriptions
only, JCMS can refund 25% of the original subscription cost per issue remaining in the subscription period. All other membership types will receive a refund for 25% the cost of postage ($16 US/$36 Canada/$46 Intl) per remaining issue(s).
Digital Subscriptions: Individual Digital Access for non-member subscribers is provided through a unique user account on our website that enables you to browse issues on Project MUSE. This digital access is non-refundable after the user account details
have been provided to the subscriber. For SCMS members, digital subscriptions are included with the cost of membership and are not eligible for refund.
