SCMS annually offers travel grants to assist graduate students and underemployed/adjunct faculty with conference-related travel expenses. Due to high demand, grants are awarded by lottery.
Grants Available for 2026
15 Graduate Student Travel Grants: $400 each
15 Travel Grants for Un/Underemployed and Adjunct Faculty: $400 each, for members earning less than $35,000/year
Eligibility Requirements
SCMS Membership: Must be a full member of SCMS.
Conference Participation: Must be presenting, chairing, or participating in a panel, workshop, or roundtable at the 2026 conference.
Distance: Must be traveling at least 200 miles to attend the conference.
Student Status: Graduate students must be enrolled in a program at the time of both application and the conference.
All eligible SCMS members, regardless of their race, color, or national origin, are encouraged to apply for the Travel Grants.

Deadline: Monday, January 5, 2026, by 5:00 pm CST
Notification: Applicants will be notified via email.
Distribution: Checks will be handed out at the 2026 conference in Chicago (at conference registration). We are unable to mail checks in advance.
