Grandes Dames of Feminist Film Theory

Grandes Dames of Feminist Film Theory

Please join us for two upcoming online events focused on the lasting impact of feminist film theory. “The Grandes Dames of Feminist Film Theory: A Roundtable” will take place on Friday, December 5 at 3 pm CST as the showcase event of the SCMS Virtual Symposium. The conversation brings together groundbreaking scholars whose work in the 1970s and 1980s reshaped cinema studies: Lucy Fischer, Chris Holmlund, Judith Mayne, Julia Lesage, Constance Penley, and B. Ruby Rich, in a discussion moderated by Linda Mizejewski.

In a related event, feminist film scholars from later generations will gather for “Feminist Influences: An Online Roundtable” on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 4 pm CST, sponsored by SCMS and the Gender and Feminisms Caucus. Racquel Gates, Maggie Hennefeld, Kiki Loveday, Tara McPherson, Shelley Stamp, and Yiman Wang will join a conversation moderated by Pam Wojcik. We hope you’ll plan to attend both events for lively, thoughtful, and provocative discussions.
