The Student Writing Award Committee evaluates submissions and selects the first, second, and third place winners of the competition. The Student Writing Award recognizes graduate students who show outstanding ability in the field of film, television, and media scholarship in keeping with the disciplinary concerns and traditions of moving image and sound studies. Cash awards are made to the winners, and the essay receiving first place is published (subject to revision) in JCMS: Journal of Cinema and Media Studies. The committee is responsible for producing citations that will be read at the annual awards ceremony as well as producing a report to the Board.
